Exodus 33 : Lord asks Israelites to go forward to Canaan from Sinai
God says to Moses to ask people to leave this place and go to the promised land of Canaan. But God will not be with them on their journey because the people are so stubborn that if God is with them, God might destroy them due to their sins.
Moses tells this to people and they get very sad. They remove all their ornaments and go into mourning.
People pack their bags and start travelling towards Canaan. Wherever they stopped, they set up the tent of God's presence a little away from the place where they stayed. Whenever they had any problem, they would go to the tent and pray. God would talk to Moses in the tent. When God came, there would be a pillar of cloud and when people saw this, they would bow down.
Moses asks forgiveness from God and tells God that without God people will not be able to survive. God promises to be with people. Moses asks God if he could see God's dazzling presence. God says if Moses saw God's dazzling presence he would not live. God asks Moses to stand behind a rock, covers Moses's eyes and passes in front of him. Moses sees the dazzling light pass in front of him.
