Exodus 29 : Consecrating the priests
Consecrating a priest was a gory affair those days !
God gives instructions to Moses about dedicating Aaron and his sons as priests for God. They are to take one young bull and two rams without any defects. They are to give ritual bath to Aaron and adorn him with priestly garments. Aaron is to come to the front of the Tent of God's presence and hold his hand over the bull's head. They are to kill the bull there, take some blood and put on the projections of the altar and pour rest of its blood to the base of the altar. Burn best internal organs and liver in the altar as an offering to God, burn the bull's flesh, its skin, and its intestines outside the camp as an offering to take away the sins of the priests.
They are to take one of the rams and tell Aaron and his sons to put their hands on its head. Once they do that they need to kill the ram, take its blood and throw it against all four sides of the altar. Burn the whole ram on the altar as a food offering.
After this, they need to take the other ram kill it, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet. After this they are to throw the rest of the blood against all four sides of the altar. This dedicates Aaron and his sons to the service of the Lord.
The ordination service would be for 7 days and is to be observed for all time to come. Aaron should pass on his priestly garments to his sons and his sons to their sons.
