Exodus 13 : Dedication of the first borns
Moses tells Israelites that the command from God is that they should dedicate their first borns to God. The first born animals belong to God but people should buy back the first born child from God. The observance is to remember that God brought the Israelites out of Egypt when they were suffering.
While the Israelites were traveling in the desert, God was with them all the time. During the day, God was in front of them as a pillar of cloud and during the night, God was with them as a pillar of fire. Israelites marched on on their journey fearlessly since the Lord was with them.
